Dermatologist
Dr. Dawes is a native of Wabash, Indiana. He is a graduate of Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed an Internal Medicine residency with board certification at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana and a Dermatology residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine and received board certification from the American Board of Dermatology in 1995.
Dr. Dawes founded the practice in 1995 with Dr. Fretzin joining the group shortly thereafter in 1997 to create Dawes Fretzin Dermatology. Together they established Dawes Fretzin Clinical Research Group in 2004.
Dr. Dawes has served as secretary/treasurer and president of the Indiana Academy of Dermatology state medical society.

Dermatologist
Dr. Fretzin hails from the North side of Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in philosophy. He completed medical school and an internship at the University of Chicago. He came to Indianapolis for his Dermatology residency at Indiana University School of Medicine and received board certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 1997. During his Dermatology residency he developed a specialty interest in the management of sexually transmitted diseases. Dr. Fretzin staffed a county STD clinic one day a week from 1997-2011.
Dr. Fretzin joined Dr. Dawes in 1997. Together they have directed the growth of the practice to encompass all aspects of dermatology including general and pediatric, surgical, cosmetic and research. They also established a med spa and offer cosmetic services such as Botox® injections, laser treatment, and chemical peels. In 2004, the doctors opened Dawes Fretzin Clinical Research Group and have since participated in numerous clinical studies. They have researched new medications for skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, skin cancer, and acne. They have also investigated new agents for non-dermatologic conditions such as diabetes.

Dawes Fretzin Dermatology welcomed Dr. Ann-Marie Hyatt to Dawes Fretzin Dermatology in August 2012. Dr. Hyatt graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. She received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her Dermatology residency in Indianapolis at the Indiana University School of Medicine and was board certified by the American Academy of Dermatology in 2010. She continued her education at University of Cincinnati, with a dermatopathology fellowship and was certified by the American Board of Dermatopathology in 2011. Dawes Fretzin Dermatology was thrilled to add her specialty in dermatopathology to the services we offer our patients.

Dermatologist/Mohs Surgeon
Dr. Nicholas Countryman is an Indianapolis native and a graduate of Brebeuf Jesuit High School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his Doctorate of Medicine from Yale School of Medicine. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management. Dr. Countryman completed his Medical Internship at the Indiana University Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics and his Dermatology Residency at the Indiana University Department of Dermatology, Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Countryman became board certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2009.
Dr. Countryman completed a micrographic and dermatologic oncology and reconstructive surgery (Mohs) fellowship at the Skin Surgery Center in Winston-Salem NC He was certified by the American College of Mohs Surgery in 2010. He has extensive experience in the removal of complex skin cancers and the subsequent reconstruction required to repair the surgical wound. We are excited to offer his expertise to our patients.

Chris (Christy) L. Nebesio, M.D., joined Dawes Fretzin Dermatology in January, 2007. She grew up in North Carolina and received her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. .
She received her M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine., and subsequently completed her dermatology residency at Indiana University School of Medicine and becoming board certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2005. Prior to joining our group she was a practicing dermatologist in Columbus, IN.

Priya K. Young, M.D., joined Dawes Fretzin Dermatology in September, 2007. Priya was born and raised on the north side of Indianapolis. After completing her undergraduate degree at Purdue University, she received her M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine.. Priya then moved to Milwaukee to complete her dermatology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin where she served as Chief Resident during her final year of training. Dr. Young became board certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2005.
Before joining our group, Young was an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin working with residents in a teaching capacity in addition to her clinical responsibilities. She has a special interest in medical dermatology and in patients with complex dermatologic conditions. She has significant experience in pediatric dermatology as well.

Dermatologist
Dr. Spolyar grew up in Lebanon, Indiana. She received her undergraduate degree from Yale University and her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her internship at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, prior to training in Pensacola, Florida, to become a U.S. Navy flight surgeon. Dr. Spolyar was then assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, where she served as the flight surgeon for VMFA- 224, a Marine Corps F/A-18D Hornet squadron.
After completing this tour, she went on to complete her dermatology residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, becoming board certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2003. Dr. Spolyar completed her service in the Navy as a staff dermatologist at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Kathryn Shrift, M.D. joined Dawes Fretzin Dermatology in 2014. Dr. Shrift grew up in Arlington, Texas. She completed her undergraduate education at Texas A&M University and received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
She subsequently completed an internship in internal medicine as well as her dermatology residency training and board certification with the American Board of Dermatology at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center in 2008. Her training there included two years of research fellowship. Before joining Dawes Fretzin Dermatology, Kathryn worked as a general dermatologist in the Minneapolis, MN and Cleveland, OH areas.
She is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Dr. Oberlin grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, and received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Indiana University. She received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2014. Kate fulfilled her internship year at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and completed her dermatology residency at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. She was elected Chief Resident and honored with the Jaime Battan Compassionate Patient Care Award. Kate then completed an additional fellowship year in Pediatric Dermatology at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Oberlin is board certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Women’s Dermatology Society, the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, and the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance.

Michael Isaacs, MD grew up in Evansville, Indiana. He attended college at the University of Notre Dame where he received a Bachelor of Science degree and a minor in Ethics. He completed medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2016 and his medical internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He then completed his Dermatology Residency with the Department of Dermatology at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Dermatologist/Mohs Surgeon
A retired Navy officer, Dr. Dent served 24 years on active duty, including 10 years as a Naval Flight Officer followed by 14 years as a medical officer. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame, and upon graduation was commissioned in the Navy and sent to Pensacola, Florida for initial flight training as a Naval Flight Officer. He served two overseas deployments, flying on and off aircraft carriers, accumulating over 300 traps (landings) aboard the USS Roosevelt and the USS Enterprise.
He attended the military medical school, the Uniformed Services University, in Bethesda, Maryland, where he received several academic awards and was accepted into the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. After medical school, and subsequent residency training at Walter Reed, he spent the rest of his career in the military as a Navy Dermatologist. Upon retirement in June, 2020, Dr. Dent completed his fellowship training in Dermatologic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology.
Physician’s Assistant
Christina Race PA-C joined Dawes Fretzin Dermatology in October 2000 as Dawes Fretzin Dermatology’s first Physician Assistant. She grew up in Indiana and received her degree of Health Science/Physician Assistant from Butler University in 2000. In 2004, Christina helped start Dawes Fretzin Clinical Research Group and has since participated in numerous clinical trials.
She completed additional dermatology training with the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPP) and received Diplomate Status.

Betsy Golden MS, PA-C joined Dawes Fretzin Dermatology in July, 2007. She grew up in Missouri and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2000. She received her Masters Degree in Physician Assistant studies at Chicago Medical School in 2002.
She completed additional dermatology training with the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPP) and received Diplomate Status.

Physician’s Assistant
Jennifer M. Conner, MPAS, PA-C grew up in Lapel, IN and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Marian University in Indianapolis in 2003. Following her undergraduate education, she attended the U.S. Army Interservice Physician Assistant Program at Fort Sam Houston and earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies in 2005 from the University of Nebraska.
She served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 11 years as a medic, Medical Specialist Corps officer, and battalion physician assistant. Jennifer began her career as a PA in dermatology in 2006. Jennifer is a past president of the Society of Dermatology PAs and a founding trustee of the Dermatology PA Foundation.

Emily joined our practice after receiving her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Indiana University in 2022. She grew up in Indiana and is thrilled to be working in her hometown. She completed her undergraduate education at Stetson University in 2009 with a degree in Marketing. Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, Emily worked in varies aspects of the golf industry, where she earned her Ladies Professional Golf Association T&CP certification.
Physician’s Assistant
Rebecca Tompkins, MSHS, PA-C, grew up in Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Pre-Health Studies. Following her undergraduate education, she earned a Master of Science in Health Sciences and Physician Assistant Studies in 2007 from George Washington University. She practiced as a Dermatology PA in Los Angeles, CA for 13 years before moving to Indiana and joining Dawes Fretzin Dermatology in 2023. Rebecca is a Fellow of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and member of The Alpha Eta Society.
Physician Assistant
Ashley Worthington, PA-C grew up in Chicago, IL and received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology at the University of Dayton in 2015. She then earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Practice in 2018 from the University of Dayton.
She is an active member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and is on the Board of Trustees for the Dermatology PA Foundation, a nonprofit that supports PAs by providing resources to help advance their education, get involved in medical research and philanthropy initiatives for the dermatology patient communities they serve.
Esthetician
Dawes Fretzin Dermatology is proud to introduce Marisa Allen to our esthetics team. Marisa began her career as a medica assistant and graduated in 2002. She then followed her passion of skin care and received her Esthetics license in 2005. Marisa began her career at Dawes Fretzin in 2009 as a medical assistant and later moved to the esthetics team in 2012. Since working closely with the physicians, she has gained a wide variety of knowledge and understanding of skin.
Her passion strives from seeing the unrelenting effects the sun, environment, daily stressors, and overall health and wellness can have on the skin. Marisa takes great pleasure in caring for her patients and believes skin care is not a one size fits all. She has created many long-lasting connections with her patients.
Marisa has advanced training in microneedle, PRP, chemicals peels, and laser. Some of her favorite procedures are Hydrafacials, dermaplane, BBL, Halo, and laser resurfacing. She enjoys working with acne, pigmentation and sun damage, and skin rejuvenation. Marisa is always up for a challenge!

Dawes Fretzin Dermatology introduces Hattie Fox to our Esthetics Team. Licensed as an Esthetician in 2012, Hattie joined Dawes Fretzin Dermatology in 2019.
Since then, she has attended many additional advanced skin care courses and Esthetician educational training.
Her passion for skin care makes her job an enjoyable experience each day. Hattie believes that investing in your skin is a benefit that lasts a lifetime.

Valerie studied Communications & Business at Marian University. She began her career working closely with patients in Diabetes Care for a pharmaceutical company. She then trained and was licensed in Esthetics in 2013. Valerie has participated in many advanced training courses in skincare & esthetics services. She was selected to attend the National Training Summit for Sciton Lasers in Dallas, Texas -November of 2017.
Valerie has always taken special interest in skincare and is driven by the personal connections she makes with her patients. She takes great pride in being able to help patients make their skin healthy and beautiful!
